HOW DOES SUZUKI LEAN BURN WORK?
Suzuki Lean Burn predicts, controls and optimizes how much fuel is mixed with how much air to keep you moving at your current speed in the most fuel efficient way.
Normally, petrol engines use an air-fuel mix of around 14:1 (14 parts air for every 1 part of fuel). Suzuki Lean Burn can adjust this ratio automatically up to a lean 19:1, which is 19 parts air to every 1 part fuel – that’s 35% less fuel consumption.
With increasing fuel prices, fuel consumption has become a big deciding factor when purchasing, a vehicle, motorcycle, and certainly an outboard motor.
What is needed is an outboard that can provide affordable time on that water, so you can do what you love for longer, further, and less.
Lean Burn is a Suzuki patented technology that optimizes and reduces both fuel consumption and costs, delivering, under specific conditions, a better air/fuel ratio and greater fuel savings.
Fuel combustion needs a specific amount of air, this air/fuel ratio is called the stoichiometric ratio. Lean Burn system control changes this ratio to the benefit of lower consumption.
This creates a longer burn time and a more controlled explosion of the fuel, over the full downward stroke of the piston. This in turn means that there is power over the whole combustion stroke and subsequently a more efficient and complete burning of all the fuel available; leading to more power for less fuel and fewer emissions.
Thus the Lean Burn Control System supplies the appropriate amount of fuel and air mixture depending on the navigation conditions; this allows for significant improvement in fuel economy in all speed ranges especially at cruising speed and fuel is cut thanks to improved fuel economy.
Concerns might be that the increased amount of air would compromise engine performances, however, the control unit monitors all engine parameters and doesn’t change engine performance under stable conditions.
In order to get that intelligent fuel management, Suzuki improved the electronics and technology into the engine, re-designing every component part, to make it as lightweight mechanically and more fuel-efficient as possible for new generation model outboards.
Suzuki has been extending the use of the Lean Burn technology over its whole range for some years, and the technology has been applied from the DF9.9 right up to the big daddy DF350.
What does Suzuki’s Lean Burn technology mean for you?
More affordable time on the water so you can go further for longer and less.
